Chairman’s Message

This year, the St. Ignace Area Community Foundation (SIACF) is
proudly celebrating twenty years of dedication to our community, and
I would like to take a moment to update you on the current status of
the Foundation and to let you know more about how this wonderful
asset to our community began.

The St. Ignace Area Community Foundation was initiated by three men
— Dr. A.D. “Don” McKinnon, Mr. Fred Stearns, and Mr. Jack Swope —
in 1995. While none of these generous men are with us today, funds
within the Foundation memorialize their family name and their
contributions to our community as a whole.

While the Foundation became a reality in 1995, it was not until 1999 that
the first grants and scholarships were available. To date the SIACF has
given scholarships to students and grants to area organizations in excess
of $526,000 and the total capital balance is over $1.5 million.

What our founding fathers began thrives today and lives up to our motto,
“For Good. For Ever.” Grants and scholarships are only awarded from
the earnings on our principal balance, thus allowing the St. Ignace Area
Community Foundation to live on in perpetuity.

The purpose of the grants and scholarships awarded by SIACF is to
enhance the opportunities for our community, our students, and the
services we provide to those who visit here.

As we celebrate our twentieth year, and look at promoting the
Foundation for the future, please join us in considering a contribution
to one of our funds. Donations of any size are welcome and appreciated.

ST. IGNACE ALL CLASS REUNION

Plans were initiated during 2002 by board members of the SIACF and some other interested community members to hold a first ever (for St. Ignace) All Class Reunion. It was and is intended that this event would bring St. Ignace Area Schools' alumni and their guests together for a social event that would highlight the significance of the SIACF. The first event was held during the summer of 2003.

The initial event was held at the Little Bear East Arena and was attended by over 800. Proceeds from this first event, as well as the subsequent events in 2008 and 2013, were directed into a new Fund, the LaSalle Alumni Fund. The three reunions held thus far have generated just over $30,000 collectively and have established the basis for this Fund.

Attendees at the first event in 2003 indicated that an "every five years" event was prefedded. Thus, the next event is scheduled for the summer of 2018. A facebook page was established to share information on the Reunion and will continue to be used. You can access it at St. Ignace Alumni.

FacebookAs the 2018 event nears, updated information, registration, and other relevant information can be found on the SIACF website. While contributions can be made to the LaSalle Alumni Fund at any time, proceeds from all future Reunions will be directed to this fund. Grants from the Fund benefit community enhancement, education, and volunteer efforts in our community.
